Similar feature is present in the “no machine" android app... A swipe can expose a set of buttons, and the user can click one to set the task to this status.The downside is we lose the one swipe to defer mechanism, but the upside is that we can easily put a task in any status with one swipe a one click. Likely we only have space for 3 options or so. But most tasks only move into a limited set of possible statuses.

swiping to the right on a task could require a certain minimum swipe distance to activate, and then have multiple steps beyond that point where, if the task is released, will apply different defer date calculations. e.g. swipe to the first point = defer by one day. swipe to the second point = defer by two days, swipe to the third point = defer by one week.

indentation or badging on tasks to show path of dependency. this would make visualizing more complex branching chains easier. current best idea is thin stripes on the left side of task cards that give a visual indentation of card contents without moving card area which would move touch targets for drag handles.
